Keretapi Negeri Sabah


Latar belakang

Sejarah penubuhan perkhidmatan keretapi di Negeri Sabah bermula sejak zaman British North Borneo Chartered Company (BNBCC) lagi. Perkhidmatan keretapi telah dicadangkan oleh Pengerusi dan Pengarah Urusan BNBCC ketika itu, iaitu William Clarke Cowie.

Hasilnya pada tahun 1896, pembinaan landasan keretapi dari Beaufort ke Weston bermula yang diketuai oleh Arthur J. West, seorang Jurutera Awam Inggeris. Selain menghubungkan bahagian timur dan barat di sebelah Utara Borneo, pembinaannya adalah bagi membantu membangunkan industri getah dan tembakau yang ditanam di daerah pendalaman seperti Melalap, Tenom dan Beaufort. Perkhidmatan keretapi yang digunakan untuk mengangkut hasil-hasil tanaman ini ke pelabuhan di Kota Kinabalu (Jesselton) untuk dieksport ke luar negara.

JKNS (North Borneo Railway pada waktu itu) ditubuhkan dengan rasminya pada 01 Ogos 1914 melalui Chapter 116 of The Ordinance of North Borneo. Pada masa kini, JKNS diketuai oleh Pengurus Besar dan dibahagikan kepada enam bahagian iaitu Pentadbiran, Akaun, Kejuruteraan Awam, Kejuruteraan Jentera, Lalu lintas dan Stor. Setiap bahagian diketuai oleh seorang Ketua Bahagian dari Gred 41 – 48. Sehingga tahun 2012, JKNS mempunyai 427 kakitangan.

Sejarah

1896 – Pembinaan landasan keretapi Sabah yang pertama bermula di Bukau yang diketuai oleh Jurutera Inggeris, Arthur J. West.  Landasan sepanjang 32 km dibina dari Beaufort ke Weston dan siap sepenuhnya pada tahun 1900.

Kota Kinabalu: Nine people were injured - including two with broken legs - when a routine train ride home nearly turned tragic for some 100 passengers at the Shell station opposite the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), Monday.
Eight of the injured were women, including one who was pregnant.
The train with four coaches had departed from Federal House near Sabah College and was bound for Papar and Beaufort. It was carrying civil servants, among others, and collided with an oil tanker at Km 18 near Petagas at 5.30pm.
The impact set off an explosion and a huge fireball that could be seen for miles and caused a massive traffic jam for several hours.
The injured were identified as Asmeh Bte Papang, 43, Lily Shafura, 29, Ruhimah bte Rahmat, 42, Rauziah bte Ramli, 37, Masitah bte Nilu (pregnant), Sardy bte Latif, Norfidah bte Jailani, 33, Isma bte Ismail, 18 and Joseph Philip Kulip, 50.
State Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib told reporters at the scene, that the driver of the tanker, Dauleh bin Dausun, 41, and train driver Ali Ramli, 54, escaped injury.
The victims were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
"The collision occurred when the oil tanker turned into a junction heading into the Shell station and exploded. Fortunately, nobody died.
We are still investigating," Hamza said.
It was understood that the tanker was crossing the track to send fuel to the gas station, but was not quick enough to completely cross the track, causing the train to ram into it. This caused the tank laden with petrol to leak before exploding.
The impact caused the locomotive to jump off the tracks and catch fire, including the first coach. The collision also caused the oil tanker to spin until its trailer faced the KKIA.
A 23-year-old pump attendant at the Shell station, Rosidih, said he saw the train collide with the tanker that was driving into its station before the explosion occurred. A 21-year-old motorcyclist, Ag. Damit, a student of UiTM, said he heard the train blowing its horn before the collision.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Director Nordin Fauzi said five fire-engines were despatched from the Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Lintas fire stations.
He said they were also assisted by a water tanker and two fire-engines from the Airport Fire and Rescue Unit.
The operations room of the department said the fire was brought under control at 6.42pm and the firefighters were still putting out the fire at press time.
Fire and Rescue Department from KKIA dispatched two fire engines and Fire and Rescue force from the Lok Kawi Camp have also joined the team to put out the fire.
